A good car tune-up is a comprehensive maintenance service aimed at ensuring the engine runs efficiently and reliably. Tune-ups focus on inspecting, cleaning, or replacing key components of the ignition, fuel, and air systems to optimize performance.
New Spark Plugs: Old or worn spark plugs can cause misfires, poor fuel economy, or difficulty starting. We replace spark plugs with ones that match your vehicle’s specifications.
Spark Plug Wires Inspection: Our Techs inspect your spark plug wires (or ignition coils in some modern cars) for damage or wear. They will replace them if necessary.
Air Filter Check and Replacement: A clogged air filter restricts airflow to the engine, leading to poor performance and reduced fuel efficiency. The engine will “breeze” more easily after replacing a dirty air filter.
Fuel Filter Replacement: A clean fuel filter ensures that dirt and debris don’t clog the fuel injectors or engine. We replace it if it’s dirty or nearing the end of its service life.
Fuel Injector Cleaning: Our techs will proceed to a fuel injector cleaning to remove buildup and deposits affecting engine performance.
Fuel Pressure Check: We check the fuel system pressure to ensure it’s operating within manufacturer specifications.
Ignition Timing Adjustment: In older cars, the ignition timing may be adjusted for optimal performance. Modern cars with electronic ignition systems usually adjust themselves, but the system is still checked for accuracy.
Distributor Cap and Rotor Check (for older vehicles): We inspect these components, found in older vehicles, are inspected, for wear or cracks and replace if necessary.
Oil, Coolant and Transmission Fluid: We checked these fluids to ensure proper levels and cleanliness, and they are topped off or replaced as needed.
Alternator Check, Battery Inspection: We check and test the battery and the alternator, which charge the battery, for charge, corrosion, and overall health. We also clean the battery terminals.
Drive Belt and Timing Belt: Belts are inspected for cracks, fraying, or wear. Worn belts are replaced to prevent breakdowns or engine damage.
Hoses: All hoses in the cooling and fuel systems are inspected for leaks or weak spots and replaced if necessary.
Oxygen Sensor Inspection: Modern cars have oxygen sensors that monitor the air-fuel mixture. If these sensors are malfunctioning, they can cause poor fuel economy and increased emissions. Our tune-up includes testing or replacing these sensors.
Exhaust System: The exhaust system, including the catalytic converter, is inspected for damage or clogs that could affect performance or emissions.
Throttle Body and Intake Cleaning: Over time, carbon buildup can accumulate on the throttle body and intake manifold, affecting how air flows into the engine. Cleaning these parts improves engine efficiency and response.
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve Check: The PCV valve controls emissions from the engine. If it’s clogged or faulty, it can cause performance issues, so it may be cleaned or replaced.
Check Engine Light Scan: Modern vehicles use onboard diagnostics (OBD) systems that store error codes when there’s a problem. We will include scanning the engine control unit (ECU) for any trouble codes and addressing any issues.
